Pencil/Colored Pencil

Terry Wilson

There was a dormant artist inside me for years. When Covid hit and we couldn’t do anything else for weeks because stores and restaurants, theaters and bars were closed, this artist popped after I took an online drawing course Four years later, hooked on art, I’ve converted my mancave/former guest room into a studio. My walls are not only filled with dozens of colored pencil / graphite drawings but every corner is cluttered with empty frames, waiting for new occupants.
An anonymous quote I found on Facebook describes it best: “Art isn’t art until it’s sold. Until then it’s an obsession and a storage problem.” I have both the obsession and the storage problem, but now thanks to Coco Gallery I’m having some sales, too. That wasn’t easy for the first few years of my artistic career as I felt that selling my pictures was like selling my kids.
Unlike many of the Coco Gallery artists, I don’t specialize in painting but rather in sketching. I have become obsessed with the details of sketching with pencil, and call me crazy, but the more details, the better. I am attracted to architectural drawings such as skyscrapers with all those windows or photographic-like images of other landmark buildings.
Although my drawing courses concentrated on monochromatic graphite, my heart belongs to color, the brighter the better. I start with photographs I’ve taken of people and places, then use graphic software to vary and enhance the colors. When an image pops out at me, I draw it.
Please come to Coco Gallery and buy my art. I need the space!
